NHS England has designated Imperial College Healthcare Partners (ICHP) as an Academic Health Science Network (AHSN) for North West London. North West London comprises eight boroughs with a total population of almost two million people, accounting for a quarter of the population of London. Together the health budget is £3.4 billion.

Membership of ICHP includes Imperial College London, ten NHS Trusts, eight Clinical Commissioning Groups, and the Royal Marsden.

The vision for the AHSN is to act as the driving force for collaborative working across North West London to:

  • deliver improvements in patient care and population health
  • generate value for the taxpayer
  • support and develop our staff
  • create wealth for the economy

As an AHSN, Imperial College Health Partners will facilitate the transformation of health and healthcare through innovation. This will improve patient outcomes as well as contributing to economic growth.

According to NHS England, “AHSNs present a unique opportunity to pull together the adoption and spread of innovation with clinical research and trials, informatics, education, and healthcare delivery. They will develop solutions to healthcare problems and get existing solutions spread more quickly by building strong relationships with their regional scientific and academic communities and industry.”

Imperial College Health Partners is one of the 15 Academic Health Science Networks designated in England.
