Imperial AHSC researchers working on Neurodegenerative disease within Imperial or in collaboration with other AHSCs in England are now eligible for a funding opportunity of up to £80,000 through the Open Innovation Challenge in Neurodegenerative Disease.

This funding call is a joint venture between the Academic Health Science Centre (AHSC) Technology Transfer Organisations in England with Stevenage Bioscience Catalyst (SBC) and Manchester: Integrating Medicine and Innovative Technology (MIMIT) to address the significant unmet healthcare needs in Neurodegenerative disease. The collaboration includes Imperial Innovations Ltd, Cambridge Enterprise, King’s College London, UCL Business PLC, Isis Innovation Ltd and The University of Manchester Intellectual Property.

By encouraging an open innovation approach, SBC and MIMIT wish to encourage collaboration to address challenges within Neurodegenerative disease. Applications are invited for projects seeking proof of concept funding for 9-15 months around two research themes:

Theme 1: Biomarkers for diagnosis and stratification of neurodegenerative disease

Theme 2: Inflammation and neurodegeneration – targeting the Inflammasome

Previous funding initiatives between the AHSC and MIMIT have been supported by the National Innovation Centre, with match funding from the AHSC Technology Transfer Organisations. These have included projects to address Hospital Acquired Infections and Arthritis, Functional Independence and Rehabilitation. The long term aim of this initiative is to support the development of innovative solutions in areas of clinical unmet need.
