The 2014 Academic Trainees Annual Event will take place at Hammersmith Hospital on 26 June.

This is an exciting yearly event open to all Imperial College Academic Clinical Fellows, Clinical Research Training Fellows and Clinical Lecturers, who have the opportunity present their research via posters and oral presentations. This year we have received a high number of excellent abstracts, six of which have been selected for oral presentation, with another 30 offered posters.  We look forward to presenting prizes for the best oral presentations in each category (ACF, CRTF and CL) and a prize for the best poster on the day.  We have a registered attendance for this year’s event of 70 trainees and there is still space left.

We are delighted to announce that this year’s external speaker will be Professor David Warrell of Oxford University – Emeritus Professor of Tropical Medicine, Honorary Fellow of St Cross College, University of Oxford. Prof Warrell’s research has included the incidence, morbidity and mortality of snake bites in Africa, Asia, Oceania and Latin America; and on the clinical presentation, pathophysiology, treatment and prevention of envenoming by snakes and other venomous animals. Current sites of active research are Nepal, Bangladesh and Papua New Guinea.

We are pleased to confirm that this year’s internal speaker will be Dr Sonya Babu-Narayan a Clinical Senior Lecturer at the National Heart and Lung Institute, Imperial College London, Consultant Cardiologist at Royal Brompton and Harefield NHS Foundation Trust and a British Heart Foundation Intermediate Clinical Research Fellow. She joined the Adult Congenital Heart Research Programme at the National Heart and Lung Institute, led by Professor Michael Gatzoulis, in 2002 to study the right heart in congenital heart disease.

The event will be followed by a reception and light refreshments.
